ABS Update

Advanced Business Systems personnel have returned to the office from a very successful
User Group Summit 2019. We were happy to spend valuable time with many of our customers and it was very nice to catch up face to face. We were also able to network with many of the Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) that we represent and get up-to-date information on their products, releases and promotions. We had valuable meetings with Microsoft where we discussed many topics, including the importance of upgrading our NAV client base to Business Central and strategies on how best to work with our existing clients to take advantage of technologies like the Microsoft Power Platform. Our sponsor session was well attended and was where we introduced GP 2365, a packaged offering designed to help companies running Dynamics GP make the switch to Business Central.

I cannot stress enough to our NAV customers that you need to budget for an upgrade in the near future. There are many aspects to consider in this decision including licensing, the method of hosting, how to handle your modifications and what version of Business Central you should upgrade to. There are critical windows that should not be missed from a licensing perspective. We're here and ready to assist you with expert advice on this topic so please reach out to us if you haven’t already and let’s get this planned out for your organization.

This newsletter is designed specifically for our customers, associates, and fellow NAV and Business Central travelers. If you wish to subscribe, you can do so here
All the best,

Chris Carrigee, PE, CPA

Employee Spotlight: Darin Rich
Every month we like to feature a member of the ABS team. This month we are pleased to introduce Darin Rich!
Darin Rich is a Project Manager for ABS and he joined the ABS team in January of 2019. In his role as a Project Manager Darin is responsible for, you guessed it, managing projects! This means monitoring budgets, identifying and resolving project related issues, and making sure everybody, both ABS and client side, are doing what they are supposed to be doing when they are supposed to be doing it. Ultimately it means ensuring that projects come in on time, on budget and meet expectations. Darin is typically managing twenty or so projects at any one time.

Alan Campbell, ABS Director of Project Teams, says of Rich “Besides being a great project manager, Darin is well respected by his fellow employees as a terrific guy with good work/life balance. Customers and employees alike enjoy working with Darin.”

Before joining ABS, Darin worked for another NAV partner where he performed a similar role. Prior to that he worked at a large technology distribution company where he oversaw an SAP implementation. He has also worked as an operations manager for a document management ISV and as an application manager for a large healthcare company. Darin received his undergraduate degree in information technology and MBA both from the University of Phoenix. He is is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and a Certified Product Owner (CSPO).

Darin was born in Newport Beach, CA, and grew up in Huntington Beach, CA. He now resides in Orange County, CA, with his wife of 23 years and three children ages one, four and seven. He loves to read, especially Stephen King, and is a classically trained pianist. He loves sushi, steak, and Indian food. In an alternate timeline where Darin was not managing projects, he could see himself selling snow cones on the beach in Hawaii!
NAV to Business Central – Important Things to Know

As mentioned in the introduction, if you are running NAV it is very important that you begin to develop a Business Central migration strategy. Two very real reasons why this is important include the NAV product support life cycle and the changes to the customization model. The good news is that once you move to Business Central complex and costly upgrades are a thing of the past.

Business Central Resource Guide
As part of the Dynamics 365 branding Microsoft has shifted a lot of the support resources for the ERP products away from CustomerSource/PartnerSource and made them more accessible. User guides, eLearning, support forums, product suggestions and more are all easily accessible on the web. You just need to know where to go.

Business Central Wave 2
In case you missed it, Business Central Wave 2 was released in October and once again there are many new features. One that is providing a lot of discussion and excitement is the end of the Windows client and the move to a 100% web-based user interface (UI).  Wave 2 introduces quite a few new features that finally make the web interface a worthy successor to the traditional desktop client.
